10 THINGS with Ro Shon Fegan

Ro Shon, at 22, you already have a successful TV series under your belt and now you’re going full fledged into your music. At what point did you decide, that the entertainment industry was the path you wanted to take?

I decided that this was the path I wanted to take, when I realized I could make money. (Laughs). In all honesty, I knew, when I realized that, all I loved and wanted to do, was to create and entertain.

You’re from Los Angeles, which somewhat gives you a hometown advantage. Did you feel any pressure to choose between acting and music?

I wouldn’t necessarily call it a choice. I’ve always been an artist; even before I was on “Shake it Up.” I think people know me so well as this character and Disney channel figure, that I have had to alter their mindset into seeing me as the artist I truly am. It’s just creating awareness about my music and hoping that they’ll love what I do. So, there definitely wasn’t any pressure. I would just say that I’m well-rounded.

You produced your own music at only 12 years old and you continue to make it happen without a record label backing you. Why have you chosen to take this path?

I think that it’s important for artists to discover themselves, naturally and organically. I wanted to find myself and really believe in my music before anyone else could, so, I just decided to work on my music as best as I could alone. This way, when I did meet the right team and the right people, my music could only get better.

We all remember how great of a dancer you were on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. Now that you’ve experienced that, would you want to take on a film or TV show where you could show off more of these skills?

You know, I love entertaining. I enjoy all aspects of this business. So, if I were to ever do a project, I would love it to be a musical of some sort, where I can sing, dance, act and just be myself, because that’s just the easiest thing for me to be.

In regards to acting, which actors work do you admire and which ones are you dying to work with?

WILL SMITH…..period. (laughs)

Most actors are very open to playing a wide variety of characters on various projects. Of course, good writing is key. What type of roles are you most intrigued by?

I am intrigued by roles that have a lot of dynamic, roles that can really show a persons’ skills as an actor. I like characters that allow me to show a different side myself; roles that I can laugh, cry, and be a bad ass; any role that shows passion and depth.

Child actors sometimes have a hard transitioning to the next level as they grow and mature. You’ve been able to take your fans with you and introduce them to a different side of you. What do you attribute this to?

I think because I’ve been so genuine throughout my transition from my previous roles, to where I am now, people have just learned to love me, for me. I’ve never tried to be anyone one other than myself, ever since my first big gig on Camp Rock. So when it was actually time for me to grow up and mature, I didn’t have to make a huge transition. Everyone already knew me, and enjoyed me for who I was.

Your new music is very grown up, which mirrors who you really are. Where did you draw your inspiration from and what’s the overall message?

For #NoNormal, I drew my inspiration from what I listen to and what I’m inspired by and what I see around me. What you hear, is what you get. I think the overall message of #NoNormal, is to always stay true to yourself, even if your personality is out of this world, it’s not about being “normal,” it’s about walking to the beat of your own drum.

We love your sense of style. When it comes to fashion, who are your favorite fashion designers and styles that we would find in your personal closet?

My sense of style stems from authenticity and creativity. I like to wear lines that I have a personal connection with, because I feel that it means so much more. I like to rock a few of my friend’s clothing lines, in particular a designer named, Ron Bass. I’m also working on my clothing line, which I can’t wait to debut to my fans in the future.

Congrats on your success thus far. We’re excited to hear the entire album when it comes out. What other projects do you have coming up?

Besides #NoNormal dropping very soon, I have music videos coming as well. I have so many cool things happening! I have a lot of online things that I’m going to be working on; you know I’m dropping singles all over the place just for the fans! I love and thank you guys!
