10 THINGS – Vaughn Hebron

10 Things about Vaughn Hebron

You’re originally from Baltimore. What caught your attention with acting to the point of making it a career path?

I’ve always been a movie and television fan. I spent a lot of time in front of the screen, and always had a vivid imagination. So, when it came to the point in my corporate career, where I was no longer happy with what I was doing, I started to look at other passions of my life that I could pursue. Being on the big screen myself, was something that I wanted to try out since I’ve always loved watching it.

Which actors’ body of work has impressed you and has made a positive impact on your carer thus far?

Will Smith and Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s been great seeing Will’s journey as an actor and his maturity, not only his personal life but also the roles he takes on. Definitely something I’d like to model my career after. And, Leonardo is just the G.O.A.T. I never miss a movie of his.

Currently, you’re on the hit BET series, “The Oval”. How were you first introduced to the series and what made you excited to jump on board this project?

I was first introduced to “The Oval” when Tyler Perry personally called me and spoke to me about it. We had several conversations getting to know each other a bit and he saw some of my previous work, and said he had a perfect role for me in this new show he had coming. I didn’t even know what I was signing up for at the time. But, I was ecstatic to not only get my biggest role thus far, but also to work with the legendary icon that is Tyler Perry. It was and still is such a blessing.

On the show, you play the role of Barry Hallsen. What are the many facets that make up his personality and what do you enjoy most about bringing his character to life on screen?

Barry is a young man in his early 20s that’s trying to establish his own independence, while also providing for his daughter. He comes from a very decent and loving home where both of his parents raised him, but is also street savvy. He’s very headstrong, especially when stuff hits the fan, and he’s impulsive. He’s always trying to do the right thing. But, the right thing in his mind, is not necessarily the best thing. Between his Cult baby mother, his unfaithful girlfriend, and a mother whom he feels does not support him, he definitely has his issues with women. The thing I enjoy most about bringing Barry to life is probably his unstable, hot-headedness. He snaps sometimes, and the other characters (and actors!) don’t always see it coming!

Last season left us on the hook. What can we expect from Barry’s character development in this new season?

Barry went through a lot last season and he learned many lessons from some of the mistakes he made. Although his drive and mission to get his daughter back has not eased up, he’s now more focused and precise with his efforts. And, he’s taking a more direct route to get her. He’s no longer relying on others to help him, which may or may not bode well for him. Also, now that his parents are having issues of their own, we can now see a different side of Barry, since keeping the family together is very important to him.

Without giving too much away, what can viewers and fans of the show look forward to seeing from the entire cast in Season 2?

There will be a lot of development in the other characters on the show. So, expect to see more out of them. And, the plot surrounding the White House powers that be, as well as the cult, just gets deeper… and darker. A lot of twists and turns!

When you’re not working on set, what do you typically do to unwind from work and focus on your well being?

I work out quite a bit, that’s just something I have to do. I enjoy video games, movies and TV, hookah and cigars, going out and hanging with friends. FOOD! And, traveling as well. But, I’m also always working on my craft, so classes and auditions are year-round for me!

If you weren’t working on your career as an actor, what career could you see yourself taking up?

I’d be at Apple or PlayStation. Lol. I’m a low key techie. If not that, either consulting or personal training.

When it comes to fashion, which designers and styles appeal most to your personality?

I’m not quite versed with many designers yet. The styles of fashion I really enjoy are looks that show off the body a little. I’m told I dress like a dancer because I really like to be comfortable in my clothes, but also look stylish. I dress like I can go to a day party or go workout at the same time!

We look forward to seeing more of you on BET’s “The Oval”. What other projects do you have coming up in the near future?

We have a few things under wraps right now, but King Richard, starring Will Smith, where I play a main antagonist, is coming to theaters Thanksgiving 2021!
