How did you get your start as a designer and what were some motivating factors that led you to that decision?
I have always been into with art. Since I was a little kid, my interest in painting, architecture and design was acknowledged of my family who have always supported me with different classes that helped me develop in different areas of art.
Which designers do you look up to and which ones have influenced your career this far?
I’m a big fan of Yohi Yamamoto’s career. Although, there’s a lot of brands and designers that I find very interesting, I don’t always admire everything in their style. When it comes to designing, it has to complement their skills in how they represent their collections, including the business side of things.
Being a designer means having the ability to meet obstacles and challenges. What have been some challenges that you’ve had to overcome from the creative side, as well as the business side?
A big obstacle has been exploring territories in an undeveloped industry. Another obstacle is changing the perspective of the public and for platforms to be more open to help generate more knowledge about national fashion.
The collection that you recently showed at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Mexico featured a collaboration with The Simpsons. Tell us more about this concept and what you wanted the audience to walk away with?
When FOX approached me, I had no idea what they were gonna propose to me. A collaboration with very important characters and with an international fan database of The Simpsons’ level was a very important challenge in my career. I would like for people to wear it with pride, knowing that it’s a collaboration of an international magnitude. But, it’s also made in Mexico with high quality standards and a 100% honest vision of what The Simpsons represents to me.
What advice would you give to other fashion designers looking to get into the business?
Perseverance is the key, never give up. I believe it is a big problem nowadays, the way people change their careers and purposes. We need to learn to compromise and understand that failure is something inevitable and it’s going to help build strength and knowledge. It’s important to learn to rise up and keep going, correcting the mistakes that took you there and keep fighting for your purpose.
