10 THINGS – Caroline Romano

10 Things about Caroline Romano

How did you get started in music?

My parents have always said that I was singing before I could even talk. Music has always been my best friend, and I’ve always known that I wanted to have a career in music. I went to Nashville for the first time at the age of 13 with a handful of songs I had written. I played open mic nights all around the city, and I completely fell in love with performing and sharing my music with others.

Ever since then, I’ve been going to Nashville nearly once a month, writing and recording new music. I am so in love with what I do, and I’m continuing to work and grow my career into something big. I made the decision to trade in being a typical teenager for striving towards a future I believe in, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice!

What’s your favorite part of being an artist?

I honestly can’t pick just one part. I love every single moment of what I do. Every step that goes into a song, from coming up with the idea, putting pen to paper, singing my heart out in the studio, and getting to share my music with a crowd is incredibly special and unique. I love knowing that I am making music others can relate to. The best feeling in the world is being up on a stage and singing the words to one of my songs with an audience. Music connects us all in such a powerful way, and it’s amazing to think that I’m contributing to those connections.

You have ties to Nashville, a city typically known for country music. How has Nashville benefitted your pop career?

In recent years, Nashville has grown to be a home for musicians of all genres. Genres themselves are mixing together more and more, with country and pop heavily influencing one another’s sounds. I’ve really enjoyed learning about country music and how it differs from pop and other genres. I know that the more I can learn about music as a whole, the more I can perfect my sound. Now, there are so many pop writers and producers in Nashville, that I feel it’s no different than working out in L.A. Nashville has benefitted my pop career in so many ways, and I think it’s the perfect place for me to have begun my music journey.

You’ve been compared to Lorde in her early days. How does it feel to be compared to such a force in the music industry?

I am always extremely flattered to be compared to Lorde, an artist I have admired for several years now. I think she has an incredibly unique sound, and that’s something I have always strived for as well. It definitely boosts my confidence to hear people say that, and it lets me know that the hard work I’m putting in is paying off. I always try to make sure that I am sticking to who I am as an artist, never chasing after someone else’s image or brand. However, it is really awesome to hear that from people!

You released a song with Jacob Whitesides. Can you share advice you learned from him?

The biggest thing I learned from working with Jacob is what it’s like to make business fun! I was super nervous the first time I met him, because I’d been a longtime fan. He made me feel so comfortable, and I stopped feeling nervous after less than 5 minutes together. He works incredibly hard, and he has fun while doing it. Overall, he’s so much fun to be around. I want to keep that mentality throughout every project!

How has your songwriting progressed over the years?

I think the biggest progression that can be seen in my music is the fact that I’ve just been growing up these past few years. When I first started songwriting, I didn’t give a lot of thought to melodies and the instrumental aspect of the songs. I always preferred working on the lyrics over music, but now I really enjoy the musical aspect of songwriting. The subjects of the songs I write are definitely more mature now. I’m no longer 13 years old and writing about the mean girls at school.

It’s really fun to listen to some of my old stuff and hear where I was at during that time of my life. The wonderful part of songwriting is that there’s always room for growth and improvement. One year from now, your songs are not going to sound like they do today. I know if my songwriting isn’t constantly changing and progressing, I’m not doing it right.

Who are your biggest musical inspirations?

Some of my biggest musical inspirations include Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne, Shawn Mendes, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Ed Sheeran. I really look up to their songwriting abilities and how they have conducted themselves throughout their careers. As a musician in this business, there is something to be said about longevity in the music industry!

Do you have new music on the horizon? Any teasers you can share with us?

I have new music coming very soon! I have been writing like crazy this past year, and I plan on releasing more music in 2019 than ever before. I’m very excited about a project coming out in early March. That’s all I can say for now, so keep a look out! It’s something I’m very proud of, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.
