10 Things about Nick Creegan
You’re originally from White Plains, NY. When did your love for acting begin and how did you initially get your start?
Growing up watching shows like All That, In Living Color and SNL initially got me interested in acting. I saw how much fun those casts were having doing improv and I wanted to do the same. I got my start in junior high school when the arts director for the district (now NAACP Award nominated actor Nicco Annan) asked me to be in his short film. From then, I did theater in college and dabbled in indie projects afterwards and then got my TV break with David Makes Man.
Which actors’ body of work has impressed you and made a positive impact on your career?
Denzel Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio. Jim Carrey and Mahershala Ali all have inspired me in their own ways.
Currently, you’re on NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime. Take us through the process of how you were introduced to the series and how you booked the role?
The audition came in pretty much like the rest of my auditions through my agent. In terms of the series itself, if you’ve watched TV you’ve heard of Law and Order. I sent my tape in and within 3 weeks I had heard that I booked the role. I was ecstatic!
What was it about the script that made you excited to jump on board?
The fact that fans would be able to look forward to seeing characters outside of the police force continue for the rest of the season instead of just one or two episodes like in SVU and other Law and Order franchises.
On the show, you play the role of Richard Wheatley, Jr. What can you tell us about his personality and what you enjoy most about bringing this character to life?
I did a read through of the role and the sides (portion of the script) that they sent through and it interested me a lot. Richie had a lot of layers in the script and I envisioned the character evolving throughout the rest of the season. Richie loves the finer things in life and it’s very fun to be able to put on finely tailored Gucci suits, Alexander McQueen sneakers and other nice fabrics while riding around in his Aston Martin. He’s also trying to get the validation of his father played by Dylan McDermott and that has been a fun challenge for me as well.
For those who haven’t already tuned in, what can they expect to see from Richard Wheatley, Jr. and the rest of the cast?
They can expect to see a lot of bravado resembling that of Robert DiNero’s character of Johnny Boy in the movie Mean Streets. There are a lot of twists and turns throughout the season and fans should be excited to tune in.
What do you typically do to relax and enjoy yourself when you’re not working on set?
I love traveling to the Caribbean to relax and do absolutely nothing but eat good food, drink coconut water, and enjoy the sand, ocean and sunsets… rum and cigars too.
If you weren’t working on your acting career, what other career would you consider and entertain?
Well, I am a trained journalist and on-air personality, which I did for seven years before acting. I wouldn’t mind doing some more of that one day along with possibly hosting a late-night show.
When it comes to fashion, which designers and styles appeal most to your personality?
Pyer Moss, All Saints and Fear of God.
We look forward to seeing your work on NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime. What other projects do you have coming up in the near future?
You can be on the lookout for some films I’m currently in development on and you can watch my short film ‘A Balcony in Brooklyn’ currently on Vimeo.
