Entrepreneur – Adaleta Avdic
As a lifestyle blogger, you aim to connect with your audience on a level that they can relate to. How did you initially get your start in this space?
As a senior college project, my professor asked all of us to start a blog where one post (minimum 3 paragraphs) would go live each week throughout the semester, about one specific topic. I chose to write about my favorite music at the time, electronic dance music. Back then, blogging was really new, and it certainly wasn’t a career. I didn’t know much about it, but I knew I loved doing it. Mainly because I loved to write. I continued to blog post-grad, balancing corporate work and my various platforms. As time went on and my audience grew, I decided to take the leap of faith and begin blogging full-time. I’m very thankful for the assignment that led me to begin this incredible journey, because I truly love the community I have built and all I have learned from it. In January, we will be celebrating eight years of Adaatude!
What is your platform about and what do you hope to accomplish with the content you put out?
I am active on various platforms because I like being able to engage with different audiences and create different content for each one. Instagram is more of a highlight reel, my blog is where I break it all down and give the details. I find myself sharing random thoughts and ideas over on Twitter and my YouTube channel is filled with behind the scenes content. I’m also active on LiveAF where I get on and share what my daily life looks like at the moment. In all that I do, I try to keep it real and create a community vibe with my audience. I actually launched a Facebook community group very recently, and it’s awesome to see how much it’s grown and all the advice women give to one another. I love empowering people, and I strive to make sure people leave my platforms with a little more insight, confidence, and of course, a little Adaatude.
Posting content on your social channels seems easy on the outside. What are some myths behind what you do?
I share a lot of my daily life, but there is a lot of behind the scenes moments. The biggest misconception that we have as influencers is that we just take cute photos and take fun trips. But, in reality, there’s a lot of things that doesn’t make it onto my Instagram feed. A typical day for me includes a lot of emails, hopping on conference calls, and creatively brainstorming content. I spend a lot of time working on contracts, negotiations, writing content, scheduling content, and managing my brand.
What are some of the challenges you face, especially with such a saturated market in the influencer/ blogger space?
Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t know their worth, and it’s frustrating to see people do free work for nothing. In turn, that hurts those of us in the industry who know the value of our work and don’t settle.
As you look back on what you’ve accomplished thus far, what advice would you give to those coming up as bloggers?
The most valuable advice I can give is to know your worth and stay true to yourself. My audience knows my opinion can’t be bought, and I’m always willing to share the nitty-gritty that a lot of people are hesitant to open up about.
Which designers and styles appeal most to your personality?
I love classic and elegant luxury, and some of my favorite designers include Christian Dior, Stella McCartney, Tom Ford, and Burberry. I have admired these designers for as long as I can remember, and I love their design and quality. Congés is also a jewelry brand that I love and had the opportunity to work with this year and share a special message through my custom coin charm.
What exciting projects and collaborations do you have coming up in the near future?
There is something very exciting coming in the next few months. Since launching my blog, over the last seven years, I’ve learned a lot about myself and my audience. One thing I’ve always had great feedback from is my sassiness, honesty, and willingness to speak about topics that some people are hesitant to dive into. This new project is going to allow me to engage more with my audience and sprinkle even more inspiration and Adaatude into their lives, and I cannot wait for this new venture into yet, another network!
