ON TREND – Purely Pastel!

I’m back!  The holidays are finally over and soon, the fashion industry will kick into high gear in anticipation of the Fall/Winter 2013 runways at Mercedes-Benz Fashion week. I’m so excited for this time of year. It’s the season that gets no love. In fact, it’s not even recognized. I call it the winter/spring season; when the Christmas lights come down, and the holiday spirit gives way to the eagerness of a new year and new beginnings. It’s the season where you can take the fall fashions and mix them with new spring things and create new looks that have a cool and fresh perspective.

One of the hottest trends this past fall was pastels, which really threw me for a fashion loop. I didn’t feel like the cotton candy colored hues would mesh well with the other bolder trends of the season, like for example the heavily gilded baroque styles that were very popular going into the holiday season. But now is the perfect time, as we head into spring, to bring on the pallid pallet!

Here’s how:
It’s still winter and cold outside, so try to stay away from pastels like pinks and corals as they evoke a warmer spirit that may be more indicative of the summer. Embrace the cooler pastels like blues, lavenders, and mints.

Use neutrals like cream and tan to ground all that color so you don’t end up looking juvenile. Layering and using chunky knits in your favorite pastel color will also help.

Here are a few examples to give you some ideas. Welcome to Winter/Spring!
