10 THINGS – GG Townson

10 Things about GG Townson

Most may not know that your grandfather was a part of the vocal group, Fifth Dimension. What did that experience do for you, to wake up your creative side as an entertainer?

Honestly, my grandfather had passed away early in my career, and unfortunately, he wasn’t able to see my career as an actress. I know that if my grandfather were alive today, he would advise me to be cautious of the negative side of the entertainment business and how important it is to make sure you are in control of your career.

When did you decide to get into acting and how did you initially get your start?

I started acting when I was seven years old. My grandfather introduced me to his agent. For me, as a child, it just was wanting to entertain. At seven years old, I didn’t have this grand idea of making it into a career. My first booking was a Toon Disney commercial, and I was hooked. I enjoyed the whole process.

Which actors have impressed you and made a positive impact on your career thus far?

Since I am a new face in the industry, I would like to know from veteran actors how they feel about my work thus far. It would be great to hear feedback from veteran actors to continue to improve my craft and further my career. I admire someone like Kerry Washington as an actress. She is inspiring, incredibly talented, and versatile with longevity and a large fan base. I hope to be able to achieve this in my career.

Let’s talk about your latest project, the Lifetime biopic, “Salt-N-Pepa”. How were you first introduced to the film and what made you excited to take this on?

I was first introduced to the film when I landed an audition. My excitement didn’t come until I knew that I landed the role. The advice I was given to me in handling the entertainment business is that you should never put the cart before the horse, which is why I saved my excitement until the role was mine. I enjoyed all the moments while on the set. I know biopics have started many other actor’s careers. I feel blessed to be in the position to potentially have the same outcome.

In the movie, you play the role of Cheryl James, better known as Salt. What did you learn about her after playing her on film?

When I first landed the audition, I studied Cheryl from her past interviews and features to understand the character. Once I landed the part, I was honored to get to know Cheryl as a person. I learned that she is such a beautiful soul inside and out. I wouldn’t have gotten to know Cheryl if it wasn’t for this project.

How does it feel to be portraying someone who was such an icon in the music world?

I’m grateful that I was given this opportunity to portray a musical icon such as Cheryl “Salt.” The group Salt-N-Pepa paved the way for so many women in the industry and were groundbreaking in music. It is amazing that I had her blessing, guidance, and support throughout the entire project.

What can people expect to see from Cheryl ‘Salt’ James and the rest of the cast in this film?

People can expect to see a real honest story about friendship, love, and business. You’ll get to see a few of the iconic musical moments, but more than anything, there is so much heart within this movie.

If you weren’t working in the entertainment industry, what other type of career could you see yourself in?

If I were not working in the entertainment industry, I would be an OB-GYN. Before I booked the film, I was in school working on my degree. I’ve always felt if I could do it all, I would. I plan to go back to school to finish my degree.

When it comes to fashion, what styles appeal most to your personality?

The style that appeals most to my personality is chill and laid-back. Unpopular opinion, but I’m not one that goes crazy over high-end brands and super materialistic things. I love discounted stores like Ross as I find a lot of great things! Yes, I have pairs of Christian Louboutin heels, but I prefer a more comfortable style. I always opt for a pair of UGGs or Crocs or even Nike Air Force 1 sneakers.

We look forward to seeing your work on Lifetime’s “Salt-N-Pepa”. What other projects do you have coming up in the near future?

I recently booked a role in the third season of “All American”  where I play a new musical artist under JP’s label. You might love her, or you might not like her. You will have to watch the show! You can keep up with me on social media to learn more about my upcoming projects.
