10 Things about Theodore Barnes
You’re originally from California. When did you love for acting begin and how did you initially get your start?
I didn’t realize my love for acting until a couple of years ago. It originally was a fun hobby to do while in school. Then I slowly started to realize it was something I was good at. Initially, I started out doing background and stand-in work for the first couple years of my career. Shortly after, I got an opportunity to meet with an agent that was looking for new clients in which, shortly after that, I booked my first recurring role on Back In the Game with James Caan, Maggie Lawson and Josie Totah.
Which actors body of work has impressed you and has made a positive impact on your career thus far?
Kevin Hart has had all the right impact on my career and in my life. He is one of my favorite comedians. I’ve been watching him since I was a young boy. I have seen him do an amazing transformation from stand-up comedy, acting, storytelling, producing and so much more. He is an inspiration to me on a personal level as well. Mr. Hart has an incredible testimony and has overcome many obstacles and is still elevating every day. That is how I see myself and my life. With God all things are possible!
Currently, you’re on the BET series, “The Ms. Pat Show”. How were you first introduced to the show?
I was first introduced to The Ms. Pat Show by my agent. When I received the audition, I immediately laughed because I had just discovered Ms. Pat a couple months prior on Comedy Central. So, using my free time seeking out new faces and reviewing the pioneers, had proved itself worthy and right on time. Naturally, when I received the opportunity to audition for the show, I gave God His glory and was ready to put my best foot forward.
What was it about the script that made you excited to be a part of this project?
Everything about the script made me excited to shoot this show. There was an overflow of realness, family perspective, and love that really made me feel like it was going to be a great experience, simply by reading the words on the script. Excellent writing!
On the show, you play the role of Junebug. What can you tell us about his personality and what you enjoy most about bringing his character to life?
Junebug is like the glue to the family. He has his own personal relationship with each family member. I enjoy bringing a different, relatable comedy for the teens watching, so that they will be able to recognize situations that they’ve been through or can relate to (presently or in the future).
What can viewers expect to see from Junebug and the rest of the cast on this season?
You can expect just about anything and everything from the cast. We are going to be real, relatable, and raw. People are going to get a different ease and perspective from watching The Ms. Pat Show.
Outside of acting, you’ve been very active with volunteer work. One of these organizations is Habitat For Humanity. Tell us about your involvement in this program and why it’s so important to you.
Originally, I started my volunteer work as a school project in my freshman year of high school. Habitat for Humanity was the first organization that sparked that passion in me to simply want to serve and contribute anyway that I could. Infusing my upbringing with Habitat For Humanity and other serving-based organizations is fulfilling.
If you weren’t working on a career in acting, what other careers would you entertain in place of it?
I have always wanted to go to the NBA. My favorite sport is basketball. I can play the game well and analyze the game both on and off the court.
When it comes to fashion, which designers and styles appeal most to your personality?
Fashion comes in many forms to me. Currently, my favorite brands are Gallery Dept. and Bape. They both have a subtle, yet classy look. All street brands receive my attention. The “eye catchers” are the clothes that exhibit a change of pace. Gunna is my number one inspiration when it comes to fashion. His aesthetics are top tier.
Besides BET’s “The Ms. Pat Show”, what other projects do you have coming up?
I hope to be returning to The Goldbergs soon. I am auditioning both theatrically and for voice-over. I’m looking forward to more commercial and branding opportunities as well. I have some irons in the pot and I’m patiently waiting to share. In the meantime, when I am green lit to share, the world will be the first to know.
