10 Things about Jordan Christie
When did your love for acting begin and how did you initially get your start in the business?
My love for acting began by way of awe and admiration from afar. I was a pretty laid-back reserved kid, so I did not initially feel like I was the “actor type” because the ones I knew, at that time, were pretty boisterous and were always singing musicals. But, I became more and more enamored with great acting and the unifying power of a great story. At a point, I felt like I just had to try it; first in a high school play, and from that point, there was no looking back. I sought out my first agent and then after theater school, classes, and hundreds of auditions later, here I am.
Which actors’ body of work has impressed you and made you want to emulate your career in a similar way?
Denzel Washington always comes first to mind, but there are plenty more. Sidney Poitier Leonardo DiCaprio, Idris Elba, Don Cheadle, Mahershala Ali, Chadwick Boseman, Robert DeNiro, and Tom Hardy.
You have a background in performing on the stage. How has this affected your approach to acting in film and television shows?
That’s a good question. In general, I have had to learned to create a relationship with the camera. To ignore it isn’t the answer, because you want to have awareness of the camera and know its location to make sure that the performance is not lost. Flirt with the camera they say. I have also had to learn that with television and film that less is more and how much you can say with just the eyes. I am always learning.
Currently, you’re on the Paramount+ series “Why Women Kill.” How were you first introduced to the show and what was it about the script that caught your attention and made you want to be a part of this?
My first introduction to the show was seeing the first season’s billboard, which was right across the street from my house. I thought it sounded like an intriguing concept, but I did not actually watch it until I got the audition. And then, I binged it all the way through. It was such a fun watch. The tone and time period first caught my attention. Then it was the characters, which I found to be very fun and addicting, as they each go on their separate journey yet eventually collide.
On the show, you play the role of Vern Loomis. What can you tell us about his personality and what about his character you enjoy playing out on screen?
Vern is a private investigator with a rugged exterior but definitely has a soft, gushy interior. I was excited to play his internal conflicts and his pursuit of love, justice, and truth. But also, who wouldn’t want to play a private investigator? They represented “the cool” during the noire film period. I was thrilled to portray a complex human being.
For anyone who hasn’t watched the series yet, what can viewers expect to see from Vern Loomis and the rest of the cast in this second season of “Why Women Kill”?
You can expect quite a ride. Vern’s personal life and business life become intertwined, complicated and flipped on his head. You get to see him, and the rest of the cast make some tough decisions. This season is packed with twists and turn that will leave you shocked and entertained.
When you’re not working on set, you enjoy traveling to different countries. What have been some of your memorable experiences in this regard?
My favorite country to visit is Jamaica. Both of my parents were born in Jamaica, so going there feels like nowhere else. Almost like a homecoming, even though I do not personally know the land all that well. But, the food tastes like everything I have been missing and makes me believe that I have a chance of running as fast as Usain Bolt. It’s somewhere in there.
If you weren’t working as an actor, what other type of careers would you consider?
I used to say that I would be a surgeon when I was a kid until I realized that I wasn’t any good at science.
When it comes to fashion, which designers and styles appeal most to your personality?
Nike, Zara, Levi, and Topman are the first that come to mind; but I stay open to being surprised.
What other projects do you have coming up in the near future?
I am in negations for some things which I cannot discuss yet. But keep eyes out!
